Last week I got an offer for a data science role at google. Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations but I think it’s extremely low?? Base: 125,000 “Expected yearly bonus”: 19,000 RSU: 90k/4 years (22.5 per year) Signing bonus: 15k So basically 165,500 TC (not including signing bonus). My current TC at a startup is over 200k (150 base + >50 stock). Pretty bummed about the whole thing since I do really want to work for google Edit: forgot this: 3yoe and masters degree from top school in related field
Is this a product analytics position or DS?
DS. Not product analytics
I don’t think it is DS, unless you were asked a lot of hardcore statistics questions in your interview. Were you? The role also has mostly PhDs, so I’d be impressed if you made it into the ladder with a masters. Eg you should’ve been interviewed by mostly PhDs
That's awesome! Always great to learn you are overpaid as opposed to under.
Haha I guess that’s a silver lining. I just feel a bit stagnant in my company in terms of technical growth (and don’t see a significantly better role)
Well if growth is the goal Google may be worth considering as you would have nowhere to go but up
Is that L3 or L4? I thought G treated DS on same track as SWE.
They didn’t tell me an exact level. From comp posts I’ve seen, looks like DS gets a lot less RSU
You should confirm. DS (non product analytics) should get the same RSUs as Eng.
Super low, but it depends on how much you wanna work for G.
Just negotiate. I got a similar opening offer and negotiated to get >$200k pretty easily. Just focus on increasing equity.
Good to hear!!
You never mentioned which area you were going to be in - could be a decent offer if you are in a smaller city.
Bay Area!
This is insanely low man!
Think you need to mention what location to know if this is lowball
How the F are we supposed to judge without YOE info?
Ah sorry! Thought I had put this in: 3yoe and masters from top school
