Hi Lyft folks. Do they have any good UI developer opportunities?
WLB is great. 10-6 for SDE
The orgs and roles are different. Engineers who engineer need to deliver. if you're a ninja and can do your weekly work in 5 hours, go for it. you can also be an engineer who doesn't engineer, but rather "guides" and "leads". this requires no work at all but you'll need to spend time politicking around writing docs and doing the leadership thing. In science, it's like that too but more extreme, if you're a genius you can deliver your annual contribution in a week. if you're a "leader" you can do negative amount of work, i.e. deploy garbage, have your angry colleagues fix it, and then take credit for the fix and team leadership in crucial times. However, if you can't do either, can't deliver with ease nor "lead" with venom, prepare to work your ass off. Regarding culture, it's really nice and it's nice for real. Lyft takes the woke thing very seriously and anyone slightly not woke is promptly beheaded. A bro was talking shit. fired. A manager didn't listen to women. fired. Some dude had a tantrum and scared another employee. fired. They don't fuck around with that stuff. be nice.
Well if you work your ass off and can't deliver with ease, then it's a problem. Sounds like it's a low pressure environment which is a good thing. In that case would you say it's easy to standout if you are moderately smart and really hard working?
No. standing out and getting noticed is reserved for the political track, your work will generate credit for "leaders" not for yourself
Depends on the org. I’ve been noticing a lot of sexism in Lyft compared to my previous companies - especially in autonomous and growth orgs. Avoid
WLB Depends on the team. Palo Alto teams seem to be over worked compared to SF office. Culture is the same across all and inline with some of the previous comments.

You're joking. If anything we have the opposite problem. Half the people "WFH" 3 days a week and ship marginal code changes twice a week -- just enough to close tickets and keep up appearances. Many of the people who have been here more than two years are completely checked out and just arrange meetings/write docs. The office is deserted before noon and after 5. No one is overtly cutthroat, everyone is extremely nice on the surface. But there's constant politicking and claiming ownership for minor victories. Everyone wants to be an "advisor" or "architect" without ever doing grunt work.
