MBA from where? San Jose State or Harvard?

Microsoft Qoosjshh OP Apr 1, 2018

Kellogg

Microsoft Qoosjshh OP Apr 1, 2018

Amazons offer is 115K base. 25K sign on over two years and 100K stock 5/15/40/40. Microsoft’s is 115K bass. 20K sign on. 50K stock over 5 years.

Amazon Pee=Npee Apr 1, 2018

Wtf. You’re getting low balled. Should expect 200k TC

Microsoft Qoosjshh OP Apr 1, 2018

You’re not getting 200 - i got the same amazon offer. You’re saying what you’re gonna get over 4 years. You won’t stay for four years.

Amazon Pee=Npee Apr 1, 2018

I have a friend who started recently as an MBA and is over 200.

OP is likely not in engineering, I am guessing people are thinking of engineering pay

Without your years of experience, I think this question is too handwavy.

6k stock!? Why do they bother? Is 250 bucks a month supposed to motivate you?

Microsoft Qoosjshh OP Apr 1, 2018

30K over 5 years is 6K. We get that every year. What’s your stock ?

Facebook public Apr 1, 2018

I understood, but that's about 3k take home or 250 bucks a month. Most companies offer rsu as an incentive to stay and work hard so I am blown away by how low 6k and wonder if that motivates you? My stock is irrelevant but many companies would easily offer a lot more.

I think OP single handedly convinced everyone not to do an MBA. This post will go down in Blind history books. How many years experience pre MBA and post MBA OP? Do you think the pay is relatively low because your MBA degree is from an average school? What is it for MBAs from HBS / GSB/Wharton if any in similar roles?

Microsoft Qoosjshh OP Apr 1, 2018

Microsoft and Amazon offers are about the same. Microsoft offer is 115K. 25K sign on. 50K stock. I don’t count sign on for annual comp. i only count 1 year stock for annual Comp because it’s not a fair comparison to others and i don’t count stock appreciation because it’s not 1:1. At Microsoft you start at 61. Then at 62. I was 125. Then now at 63 I’m 132. Amazon is 115K base. 20 sign on and 100K stock over 4 years. People that count appreciation or stock from previous years i feel are disingenuous because it’s not 1;1 with other people.

What kind of job is this? Mach Enterprise sales? Product marketing?

Intel Jo媽媽 Apr 1, 2018

BS in CS or non STEM? Any tech background/exp before MBA or consulting? How much did your Kellogg MBA cost, tuition + room and board? Is this your first job post MBA?

Amazon 9ndk7:bd Apr 1, 2018

Which role?

This is an offer I received last year but did not accept: Palo Alto Networks (Bay Area) Finance $181k TC 137 base + 13 bonus + 31 stock The stock was $125k vesting over 4 years

Capital One OpkN82 Apr 3, 2018

Graduated with an MBA at a tier 2 school a few years ago... TC 175k (current base is 143k, and cash bonus was 32k)... and I work in central VA so cost of living is low... Let me answer a few other questions that were asked earlier: Work in business analysis, so day to day involves gathering insights from data, translating that into business strategy, creating decks for approval, executing strategies in market... No more than 40 hours a week... allows me to focus on family/other interests... MBA cost me ~60k (out of which tuition was only 15k... on account of scholarships, had to pay for only one out of four semesters)... the other 45k was for rent and parties! And the 60k is already paid off...
