Am planning to switch jobs. While I just started to look out , I also plan to start a family soon. While I cannot predict the timeline for either , if for any reason I move to a new job and need to take maternity leave just after months into the company will I even be eligible? What is the general policy for companies in the Bay Area - LinkedIn , google , Facebook etc or are there any companies which are good with policies for new moms.
Don't plan your career around maternity leave. It can take months or years for many to successfully get pregnant. You could be in limbo for a long time wishing you'd made a move sooner.
Thanks a lot! Very helpful.. am unable to find the ML policy of the companies online. Is there some place I can find that info. Or can you post the policy of the company you are working in/ worked for?
Just be very careful about startups. depending on managers and teams, they can put job productivity before every thing. Big companies are more likely to at least follow the law.
Are you already pregnant? If not, but you plan to become pregnant, then it’s good idea to join company that provides maternity benefits from day 1 and has good coverage. I believe mot companies like google fb microsoft and amzn provide similar benefit and you can get it from day 1.
I’m in a similar situation and currently negotiating offer with Amazon. Still trying to figure out Amazon’s policy. Is it 14 wks pregnancy leave starting day 1 and 6 wks parental leave with 1 yr service required?
