If you come here illegally, you should be deported. Why is this controversial? These people are criminals.

We absolutely have race relation problems in this country, I fully agree we need to work on that, but if you’re not legal, you don’t belong here. This isn’t a race issue, this is a legal one.

You can't reason that "we just make tool" thing with liberals.
They want to ban guns because "guns kill people" but they also want lighter sentence for criminals that actually hurt or kill people.

All they did was provide equipment, they don’t get to control how it’s used. No, IBM was not in the wrong selling typewriters to Nazi Germany at the time.

If I use a kitchen knife to stab someone, is the knife manufacturer to blame? How about the bed bath and beyond where I bought it? Both of those lines of questioning are absurd, responsibility falls on the user (in my example, the stabber, in yours, Nazi Germany).

If I tell you I’m going to stab someone with the knife and then you sell it to me anyway things get a bit more cloudy.

You think stabbing someone is wrong? But I think you are also the ones that would vote to reduce sentence of criminals who actually stabbed people.

You’re going to need to troll more skillfully. Good trolls know how to stay on topic.

You are the one that's trolling. Deportation of illegals are not like stabbing people which is a crime.
And no criminal would say "sell me a knife I am gonna kill someone with that"
      No one follows your troll.

So you can’t follow metaphors. Could you please tell me what sentencing for violent crimes has to do with tech company culpability (or lack thereof) of governmental policies that they supply technology for?

If nazi is relevant, why violent crimes aren't?

Uh, Nazis didn’t simply buy some IBM punch cards. IBM continued working with the regime and had subsidiaries in Germany who were big backers of the NAZIs. IBM was even asked to boycott Germany when news of detentions came to light and IBM refused.

      https://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/mar/29/humanities.highereducation

IBM subsidiaries had people working with the Nazi “Race Office”. Imagine those customer success meetings! “So if I’m understanding your needs correctly, you’re saying you want some way of quickly tabulating a census, locate and tag certain demographics, then move those units seamlessly to logistics for delivery to a camp?”

“If nazi is relevant, why violent crimes aren't?”

Because the holocaust was calculated and systematic whereas violent crime tends to be crimes of passion. If you went to Target’s kitchen section and asked for help in determining which kitchen knives cut human flesh the best... yes Target would be held accountable if people still sold them knives and they went out and stabbed someone.

Nope. The law is the law and if you break US law by immigrating illegally, you should be sent back.

LITERALLY EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WORKS THIS WAY

I’d be pretty disappointed in my 8 year old if they presented this simple of an argument. Whatever your thoughts about immigration if you look at it critically it is an incredibly complex issue and your cute soundbite fails to have any meaning.

This is my greatest concern about the future of this country. The strain of anti-intellectualism and unwillingness to confront complexity has become an epidemic.

Dude, it is that easy. We are partially a welfare state and taking in a stream of non-English speakers... that lack a basic American high school education and have few marketable skills - and then putting them all on the welfare system while running trillion deficits is unspeakably stupid. It’s the same mentality of a child wanting to bring home every stray animal they see.

Skills based immigration is the only way to go. Take those that can take care of themselves that won’t be a drain on the system. Take highly educated talent from China, Iran, India, France, Ireland, Nigeria, Mexico, wherever! I don’t care! However, the people we take in should be able to contribute.

This is what grown up countries do. For an example, see Canada.

Hurl as many feels-induced rants at me as you want. My viewpoint is driven by logic and economics.

You are far too confident in a simplistic view that fails to address the issue. What would be required to enforce a border with 0% illegal crossing? How about 10% of what we have now? Is there a national will to do this? How does it get funded? What technologies should be used? What human rights standards need to be considered? How do we police the police? What is the system for asylum seekers? What do we do with people who grew up here and entered as children? Does their current level of productivity matter? What should our standards be for asylum? How do we ensure that process is efficient and cost effective? How do we deal with people from places with little documentation? What would the economic effect on the US be with tighter borders? What would the economic effect be from deporting those already here? How would you do that (if you wanted to) without turning this country into a martial law like state?

I could go on and on and on. It isn’t a simple issue and if you feel absolutely sure about the answers to all is those questions you probably haven’t done enough research.

The unfortunate thing is that companies have no choice but to be complicit in whatever the government does. The government has too much oversight authority with none of the morality to wield it properly.

Thanks for making the Libertarian argument for me. I couldn’t have made a more cogent argument for smaller government if I tried.

I’m pretty damn liberal but the libertarians do get a few things right. When the government can attack your business because you disagree with their politics something is deeply broken.
