I have been doing EPI + leetcode 10-13h every day for 2 and a half month’s straight, to prepare for my Google onsite on Monday. Maybe it sounds a bit insane, but I like doing coding problems and that’s why I never had any problem studying so much. For the last two weeks I always felt like on the edge of being overworked. Today I woke up and felt extremely tired. I can barely keep my eyes open and I don’t really know what to do now. I tried going for a run and just do nothing, but it's not getting better. If I am in this state on Monday, I probably fall asleep after my first interview. I eat well, I go for a 30-45min run almost every day and sleep 9h a day (probably the reasons why I even could keep going for so long). Any tips are appreciated. TC: 0 (student)
There is a chance you have made Google as a Sense of validation or your how bad I want to get into google is really close to taking a toll on your mental health and physical health by the looks of it. My strong advice is take these two days to look and skim through but not problem solve, it’s just like a job if you are burned out completely you suck, if you are partially burned out you so bad, you can only do well if you are ready mentally and physically. I have my onsite coming up soon as well. But I have a full time job I try to spend a couple of hours if I am not burned out through my day. Read this book Deep work even the first chapter of it, you gonna learn a lot about this concept.
Thanks for your answer. That’s actually a really good point. A sense of validation definitely plays a role. Getting into Google would be huge for me, that’s why I have been working so hard. I already had deep work on my list, but I didn’t have time for obvious reasons. Thanks for the recommendation!
Sometimes anxiety manifests as sleepiness. When I'm nervous I want to go to sleep more than anything.
Ditto. When too many problems to tackle, I prefer sleeping. Lol
Sex?
Someone who spends 13 hours a day doing leetcode probably isn’t going to get laid that easily
Hookers?
Relax!! It’s not a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you can think like this way, stress becomes a bit less. I too experienced this before my Amazon on-site. So, I can relate. Try to enjoy being part of interviewing process in Google. And appreciate yourself for remaining focused so long and practicing so hard. You did amazing so far and you would do at onsite too. Best wishes!
I am proud of my discipline and progress in the last couple of months. I learned so much during those two and a half months. I try to enjoy the interview process as much as I can. Hopefully the food is good ;) Thanks for the kind words!
Do a full rest day then channel the stress into super productive energy? Just make sure you get your sleep for the interview.
advices 1. take some time to sleep 2. think about how to introduce yourself and behavior question. 3. stop coding, just go through what u have done.
Does going through the solved problem help really?
Get a massage
Watch Tom and Jerry at a stretch. Helps!!
Bro if you can't recharge by Monday you're permanently damaged
Not directly related to your question, but if you feel a lot of anxiety with the Monday interview, one trick is to tell yourself that your interview is another day later down the line. Trick your brain so that you don’t stress as much. Btw, what’s EPI?
