My employer let us know that we are going to be acquired by some equity company and merge with a smaller company. I was curious if anyone had any GOOD stories about their company being acquired to share. We have an amazing company with a great culture and benefits, so I’m a little worried. Thanks!
The company I worked at was acquired by a FAANG/BigN. It was good overal, there were some people who didn't get full time offers from the aquierer and were managed out over time.
Like on 'Silicon Valley' to be left resting and vesting?
Not for long, but some time to vest more shares
Is it private equity? If so, I would run if it was me. Their goal is to basically flip the company for more money, after patching it up a bit Just the same way as you’d flip s house.
Sometimes, probably in this case. Sometimes it's literally the last step before an ipo, good to stick through that
That’s one way it could go. But not many places are going ipo that way, I don’t think. I’ve lived through private equity, and it sure got bad quick once they decided to cut funding for just about everything.
It depends. I’ve heard horror stories and I’ve heard good ones. The company I work for was acquired by a hierarchical behemoth that is not based in the Bay Area. However they’ve pretty much left us alone and let us do our thing, albeit with some extra oversight.
For us it was fine for a year. Then we didn’t hit their insane 2x numbers they expected so the starting cutting more and more. It was really bad. I’d never work for a private equity again. If you’re a director or vp, you can make a lot more money, so it could be worth it for some.
It's fine to incredible. What exactly are you worried about? Culture usually changes but you become wildly overpaid for 1 to 4 years so it works out.
My past experiences the company purchasing cleans people out and institutes some kind of crazy policies and regulation that are way different than what was in place before. This sounds like it’s being handled very carefully but still thought it would be nice to hear from others. Thanks for sharing!
