Microsoft exploding offers

Is it common for Microsoft to revoke offers completely after a couple of weeks, requiring another set of interviews? Edit: I can't decide now on MS offer because I'm waiting for feedback from other companies. It's been a couple of weeks since I got MS offer. Recruiter is saying I would need to interview again, even for the same team, unless I accept ASAP.

What? Never heard of this.

This is BS. The recruiter is just pushing you to accept

They actually pulled the offer

Microsoft tKvD07 May 10, 2018

A recruiter can tell when they are your 3rd or 4th choice and will move on. They can't work on closing another candidate for the position unless they clear the existing pending offer.

DoorDash BYxx43 May 7, 2018

Yea tell the recruiter that if that’s the only way to get the job then thanks but no thanks. Fuck that shit.

Yes it’s true - tech skills these days age very fast. There could have been new sorting algorithm invented while you are deciding, so they would need to check if you know it .

Thanks for the entertaining post. However, I would appreciate real feedback on this as I have until tomorrow to decide (per recruiter).

There is truth in every joke

Personally I think professional etiquette goes both ways. They can give you a deadline on a decision, but shouldn’t put it that way. The way they’re pushing won’t yield positive result anyway. But also, I think making them wait a few weeks might not be the most respectful either.

I've been very respectful in communicating with MS. Kept them up to date as my situation changed. It's out of my control if another company wants another set of interviews. I guess I could just decline further interviews with that company, but I always felt MS is a big company and they can wait a month or so if they feel I'm a good fit

Microsoft doesn't hire for gereral positions like Google and Facebook. The hiring manager keeping the position open waiting for you means that they are letting the other candidates die on the vine. I've never heard of an exploding offer, but I don't blame the recruiter for trying to get a decision. Waiting a month to hear I'd want to join the team doesn't fit the hiring model that Microsoft uses. Headcout tends to close at or near the end of the fiscal year. If the hiring manager can't get you or anyone else in the position soon, there's a chance the headcount will be reallocated somewhere else in the organization.

People please can I get a Microsoft referral for a Frontend position? Thanks

New
dazedconf OP May 7, 2018

Why don't you start a separate thread asking for a referral?

Sorry man, I come in peace

Facebook zejr23 May 7, 2018

Accept the offer and renege it later in case you don’t want it. You gotta protect your own interests!

Wouldn't that get me banned at MS?

LinkedIn gocaru May 8, 2018

Probably.

Microsoft parabola May 7, 2018

If you really want them to wait, you should also make it clear that they should be free to move ahead should they find an eligible candidate. The flexibility should go both ways.

It's not like Microsoft is asking me for a permission on how to conduct their hiring process :)

Microsoft AmI3vil May 8, 2018

On the other end, they’re just people who are also trying to make the best decision for them. I’m actually confused now: do you want this position as leverage to negotiate with Google? Is there a chance you might take it even if Google says yes to your E5?

Amazon Grehhh May 7, 2018

How many days did they give you to accept the offer? (From the first day you were informed)

New
dazedconf OP May 8, 2018

A week initially, it's been 3 weeks now.

Amazon Grehhh May 8, 2018

Hmm..a week deadline to accept offer is too less. Usually it’s a month.

AT&T DDM2K May 8, 2018

When companies know they can’t match your competing offers, they start treating you like shit.

New
dazedconf OP May 8, 2018

I don't have an offer from Google yet, but I guess they think if I pass L5 they won't be able to match it
