Trying to decide where to go as an internship. Not sure what I want to do long term but ideally build a business. Mid size company is in SF and the role is a pm internship. OW is in NYC and the role is a consulting internship. Microsoft is for a program manager internship. Will going to consulting block me from going back into tech? Will going to Microsoft be smart to go to even though the mid size company seems to offer more learning opportunities and better comp? Thank you! #product #consulting #microsoft
Consulting will not block you from tech. Go to OW, it’s the more prestigious draw
Consulting won’t block you from returning to tech as a PM. That said, if you know that becoming a PM is what you want to do, why not just start now? Interning as at Microsoft would make it easier to jump to a PM track at G/FB than working at Oliver Wyman
What about the medium sized company vs Microsoft? I'm not that interested in Microsoft's products but the medium sized company is working on some exciting fintech stuff, they are also IPO bound in 2/3 years
If you’re fine staying post internship then I’d say go for it. If you’re at Flexport then I can see why you’d be excited. Seems like they’re working on some great stuff with a huge addressable market. If your goal is to jump ship afterwards, then Microsoft draws the eye a bit more IMO.
