I have a 2 year old Mustang and its resale value is really bad. I plan to have it for at least 5 more years. How much does the move cost in terms of import? What other things do I need to consider? Is there any problem with servicing or selling a US car in Canada? Thanks
Mustang is a endless money pit
Guys please stick to my questions. I am not selling my car 😅
I'll trade in for a Kia Rio. Solid car, you barely would know if the car is moving
Depends on cities
What depends on cities?
Which US city to which Canada city?

You need insurance before importing. If you're moving to Alberta or Ontario it's privatized so you have your pick of different insurance providers. But everywhere else it's the government insurance company. They will advise you that you'll need (1) an import licence, (2) full inspection with authorized and licensed company, (3) payment of GST/PST (taxes). I think you'll pay the taxes at the border or to the company that imports the car. In any event, the insurance company will advise you on the proper procedures and what they need beforehand. As for servicing, not an issue. Lots of Canadians were importing cars from the US when our dollar was at par. The only thing that's an issue is transferring the warranty from Ford US to Ford Canada. The parts are all the same but a call to a local dealership in your new city wouldn't hurt to clarify.
Thanks for all the info buddy 😊
You have to also export the vehicle when you exit the US which is a separate process with some small fees. Do you own the car? You’ll need permission from the lien holder to export and it may not be given. You’ll have to it HST in the car and maybe duty — not cheap. Then it will have to pass a safety which to get registered which is very thorough. Also, check the RIV list of valid vehicles to make sure yours is on the list. It likely is but occasionally a car valid for sale in the US may require expensive mods to be valid in Canada. Doubt this will apply to a 2 year old Ford. Insurance on a sports car can be onerous in some provinces especially if you are a young, unmarried male. You might want to call a broker to get a quote. Tl;dr: may be cheaper to just eat the loss on resale and buy a new car in Canada
Yeah I definitely have to consider selling and buying closer to my move date
