Moving to a lower paying job for better WLB

I periodically get recruiting emails from companies that pay just over half of my current salary, but promise a much better WLB. It's said that one of the only things you can't buy is time, but if a penny saved is a penny earned, then maybe that's not true. I've still got a good amount of debt, but I'm in my mid-30s and simply don't have time to have any sort of life outside of work. Would I be crazy to leave my (relatively) high paying job for the promise of a better WLB? Has anybody done this? Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Move to Europe. It will work out on its own.

I’m planning to find a better wlb job in 2-3 years after I pay off my mortgage.

It’s your work life balance, not the company’s - thus you have the control. Problem is you are only looking at blunt instruments as a solution (quit and go somewhere else). I would instead look at why your balance is out of sync. If it’s because you suck and can’t do the job thus you are always behind - then get better and stay where you are cause you’ll suck at the next job too. If it’s because there is too much work to do for anyone, have a real discussion with mgr about headcount and workload, then (based on the discussion - privately or with your manager ) set some real boundaries for time and amount of work you are going to do - Also, join a club or sport or something that has regular scheduled activities that rely on your presence so you are forced to stop and do non work things . If the option is to work less where you are for 2x pay and maybe not excel as fast because you are taking time out for yourself or get paid half as much and take time for yourself may as well get paid more. Also, if you really want to leave, you can probably with a little effort find a similar paying job and start fresh with work Life balance.

Depending on the debt, you could simply not pay it. It's an advanced move and strongly depends on what you owe to whom and how.

Have you tried just implementing the WLB you want at your current job, and seeing what happens? Go in at 9. Leave at 5. Turn off slack after 5. See what happens.

Tried that and harassment about not delivering spiked to the point that I thought I'd be asked to pack my desk.
