Msft L62 to Amazon for L5 offer, possible to negotiate for L6 at Amazon?

Got an offer from Amazon for L5. Total years of experience: 4 (USA) + 2(India) = 6 Currently at Microsoft at L62, 2.5 years in Msft. TC at Msft: 240k - location: WA Recruiter gave an initial number of 250k TC. Amazon position is in SF; I am planning to relocate. I am targeting L6 at Amazon, how should I approach?

For your YoE, you won’t get L6 external from Amazon. Given that they already leveled you at L5, you’re stuck with it

240k In WA vs 250k in CA is taking a hit on your TC

Correction: a huge hit

6 YoE ... Say thank you for L5!

Wow L5 that’s awesome

L62 how come you come 240k tc? Can you give breakdown ?? Were you new grad at msft ?

Microsoft trumtrum86 Mar 20, 2019

Yeah looks like op had a pretty good deal at Microsoft and Amazon can't may not buy it.

LOL, you want a pay cut, a worse lifestyle and higher COL? This decision makes no sense unless HAVE to be in the bay area. TBH I feel you're exaggerating your current tc. 240 is high end of L63, highly unlikely you have that at L62 (which is normally 180-220k).

stock appreciation.

Microsoft Brazuka Mar 20, 2019

unless he got 200k+ in stock at sign in then this is not possible.

I’ll say fight for comp not for level. But I will say getting to L64 at Microsoft will be easier than L6 at Amazon

Amazon orhbgjd Mar 20, 2019

You won't get l6, it's near impossible with your experience to get hired as l6 external.

Amazon orhbgjd Mar 20, 2019

Unlike Microsoft, Amazon levels are really far away.

Amazon motard Mar 20, 2019

Virtually all L5 roles at Amazon are "5+ YOE" so you're unlikely to get L6 without having some unique qualifications, and even then you won't get it. I would negotiate for more $ though. SF is way more expensive to live in than Seattle.

Take the offer from Microsoft . SFO Amazon at the same package does not make any sense
