Can someone please explain Splunk’s vesting schedule. Been offered 300k RSUs and know there’s a refresher but unclear on vesting. Would like to know before responding to offer
Typically there is a “cliff” which means you get no stock until that date. 1/4 vesting at the 1 year cliff is normal. Then there are vesting periods, which might be monthly or quarterly. So with 4 years * 12 months each, after the 1/4 cliff you might vest 1/48th each month. But ask all these questions. This stuff is complicated. Get tax advice outside the company. Companies don’t give good tax advice.
1 yr cliff so you get your first grant a year after your join. Then quarterly vested. Refresh be granted each year and vested quarterly right after.
This is super helpful. I heard about a compounding component to it. Are you able to explain how it works?
You mean how you get a refresher every year and it “compounds” because they start stacking? Why didn’t you just ask your recruiter how refreshers work.
Yes. I guess that's not exactly compounding. But i get that it's aggregates, not compounds. Just wanted a 2nd opinion. A simple concept made complex
Recruiters know little about Splunk’s refresher policies. Those have been changing, becoming far less generous starting in 2017 with the arrival of new C-level executives. Wall Street always puts pressure on companies to share profits with shareholders instead of employees. Executives have choices as to whether to listen to them. It shouldn’t be a zero-sum game but a lot of people think it is. Bottom line, base your decision on the offer. Don’t count on extra awards later unless somehow you know you’re a superstar, hypercompetive performer.
If you are superstar, don’t bother come. You will be frustrated about quarterly changing promotion policy.
I can attest to that. If you like moving fast and making big, creative moves that affect a lot of people or has big impact then Splunk may not be the place to go to at this point. My first job I ever had was like this too and I thought there was something wrong with me. In fact, it was the job itself. Don't under estimate yourself if you have that kind of drive. The only kind of drive you'll end up with is crazy.
You would think that’s something you ask the recruiter when you got the offer.
Go back to bed. Please. If it were that simple, apps like this wouldn't exist. Say nothing if nothing good to say
