My gf recently attended an on-site interview with a startup. Interview went well and vp of the company reached out to her saying she did good on interviews. He then asked about the visa stuff. That’s was the last time we heard from him. She is an international student and paid nearly $1000 for flight and hotel. We don’t want that job but for gods sake reimburse the money. It’s been a month now and we are very patient. But I am starting to get very mad. What to do now?
Yes. Have email as proof
Have you started sending angry emails and escalating yet?
Name and shame man, this shouldn’t be allowed.
Find the CEO and complain to him/her, calling out the VP by name. Start charging interest. Be loud. Startup has a lot to lose with reputation so early on, in terms of new hires/suppliers/funding
Name and shame, let’s boycott them
Yeah wtf. Airflight can easily be paid by the company.... Oh which reminds me I'm going to name and shame Thomson Reuters. They took fucking 2-3 mths to reimburse me, and it came in an AMEX gift card. WTF!!!! SERIOUSLY??? Don't work for those losers, TC is shit I heard...
Reimburse???? That word for interview expense is a huge red flag to me... Bottom line manage the logistics for the candidate. Period. If your company is emailing me to pay and then get it reimbursed, you are going straight to the ignore list. not even going to get a reply on that email.
Some stuff needs reimbursement like meal expenses and Uber/Lyft/taxi
You must be fun at parties, picking all the nit pick after everyone. Of course yes but focus is on the heavier expenses like flight & hotel. And some companies have started giving coupons for ride share that are good for airport hotel venue commute. As far as meals are concerned, room service is covered. And I don't bother with hassle of reimbursing a $10 sandwich. Also, I am not the kind that would treat himself to lavish expensive restraunts just becaus company is paying.
Some companies take a while to reimburse but they should atleast acknowledge that they’d pay it. Worst case, file a case on BBB, better business bureau.
My best experience was with zocdoc in ny. I declined the offer, lost receipts and forgot to reimburse. After a year I contact a random recruiter on LinkedIn and told I want to reimburse but unfortunately lost re ieots and quoted an approx amount ( my recruiter's email bounced so reached to someone thru linkedin). Got reimbursed very quickly. I was impressed.
Was she told by the company that she was going to get reimbursed?
