Hey guys so I just had a career change. I was a mechanical Engineer and just finished a masters in IT and got a job as a Software Engineer at an oil company in Houston. I am very excited to get hands on and learn alot about development and cloud migration on Azure which I will also be involved in. Any suggestions on specific to be learning or projects that I should def be getting involved with? my objective is to quickly learn and become valuable to obtain and even better opportuntiy.
Keep an open mind and ask questions. There will be plenty of good and bad projects over your career use them all as a learning experience.
Start contributing to Open source projects. Will take a while but I definitely think the learning curve will be so steep. Make sure to study fundamental software design principles. Any language is easy to learn with some hard work. But learning to apply the principles is what is more difficult.
