I got an offer for Full stack web developer in a healthcare startup in Arizona. I just graduated and have a Master's degree. Should I reject the offer and keep looking for an established company? I am just worried about the people. Felt like they are micromanagers. Salary - $90k/yr What is the average pay for a Master's grad. I have 1.5 years experience at Oracle. 1.5 years as a freelancer.
Startup
Any particular reason?
That depends - if you've already interviewed with or been rejected by the companies you're more interested in, then take the job. Otherwise, delay an offer decision as long as possible while you keep interviewing. (It helps if you give a specific date.)
I have been rejected by 3 major companies in last 2 months and I tried to buy more time from startup. Did not work out. I am thinking of rejecting the offer and continue looking. Bad idea?
Don't reject the offer until they force you to make a decision, and apply everywhere you might conceivably want to work asap. And definitely ask for referrals from anyone you know.
Depends on what you want to do, working on an startup can always be fun and the impact of your work is more noticeable than working on a Big Company. If I have to choose between a bigger company or a startup, I will go for the startup. I think working on small teams is better and fun, and you will also learn a lot, in bigger companies you have to learn all their process of doing things and most of the time is time wasting since it will only be useful within that company. But is up to you, if you are looking for money, go with a big company.
I don't have many doubts about the work itself. Software development is something that I enjoy. Just the people, pay and the location.
Don't reject the startup, not till you have something else in hand. Your work load is not going to be too heavy for the first few months, you can use that time to study and get a better offer
Makes sense. Thank you!
Funny that I also used to work for a healthcare startup in Arizona and after less than a year they laid off the entire team and was about to go under. But they’re still chugging along somehow with 1 engineer who is also the CTO. Be wary of startups. GREAT culture, not stable.
Accept the offer but keep looking. Switch when u get a better offer
I have to join in ten days. I am just worried I might not be able to look for jobs once I start working.
Why not, u'll have mornings and nights to yourself, keep applying and doing leetcode
