For a swe.

Bay Area: fast growing, series d startup. Seems to be on track for success. From what I’ve heard great work culture. Higher impact, cool work. TC 165k.

Germany: large well known company, satellite office. Less of an impact, work culture not that great, less opportunity to grow and move up. Work isn’t as sexy but I’ll still probably enjoy it since I did work for this team on an internship. TC hasn’t been given but assume its very low. Probably less than half of a Bay Area TC.

I’m either missing out on a great “safe” opportunity to kick start my career, learn lots, and make lots of $$, or miss an opportunity to live in Europe which I might not get again (I’m from North America).

Neither company is Uber btw - this is an old acc.

Where in Germany OP? If it’s Berlin, go. If it’s Munich, don’t.

Why not Munich out of curiosity?

For me, having been there many times and lived in the Bay, it is no way in the same category as far as metropolitan, night life, diverse, or as welcoming. Berlin and Hamburg are closer to what you can find in the Bay.

  • Germany sounds fun but then it teases you for being a stupid non-German and tells you to suck it up and take slave wages in the name of solidarity. The correct answer is to take a manly TC in the USA and rub it in their smug work-life balancing faces during your glorious two weeks of paid vacation.

No. It’s in a major city where “basically everyone can speak English” - my friend who lived there for a year.

Yes. Take Germany. You'll have sex with women way above your pay grade and grab a wife that'll make your friends jealous. You'll have the time of your life and you won't work that hard. Win/win/win.
