Got offers from FB and Google, and Reddit is keen about me but unsure about career growth/support for new grad versus other two. Recent fb news has me a little worried too, outside looking in. Google seems like you just get thrown to the masses whereas FB has dedicated new grad program.
Google, no brainer
not google, it’s super boring for new grad
This is for design
FB for sure
Why would you even consider reddit?
Like the product a lot, team was chill, and redesign is a big challenge that seems fun to tackle, but has high risk of going wrong
Reddit web redesign confirmed?
Which is highest tc
New grad? Definitely fb
Hated my experience with Facebook, loved my experience as a designer at Google
Shed any more light on this?
I think Google offers much more of an opportunity to take complete ownership of a product area, facilitating faster career growth, promotions, etc. They both are massive companies and sacrifice craft at certain times, but I really think the work coming out of Facebook is far from inspiring (despite having incredibly talented designers and IG is doing some cool shit). Google is making significant strides forward (biased? Maybe), but some teams are more design driven than others.
There's still a lot of work to do on the redesign. I don't work on that team, but I feel like that's a pretty unique opportunity.
What's going on with the Reddit mobile app? Is there a separate team that works on that?
Lots of teams work on features for the apps. There’s also a core team.
FB Fast moving culture of same aged folks: you’ll learn a ton. Perhaps meet your love :) Plus discounted stock if you join now. Make L3->L5 in 4-5 years. Then goto G (with 4-5 years of experience you almost guaranteed get L4, even if you were L5 at FB, but with nearly same L5 comp as you had) and work hard to learn even more until you reach L6 and stay there for a while: enjoy the great wlb. Then either rest&vest until retirement, or start your own company/join early startup as one of the first employees. Or become a manager and work 20h per week at most.
Yeah I'm leaning fb
Haha “perhaps meet your love.” They say there are only three real sources of business value - help someone make money, help them save time, or help them get laid. Adding that third one onto the mix is probably more valuable than +x% in comp haha.
