I am in offer stage for a couple of companies and both the recruiters are asking for "expectation" . They arent coming up with the numbers and they want my expectation first. Location: bay area Yoe :5. Current TC(non bay area): 150K. How should I proceed. Compensation talk with the recruiter seems like a daunting task for me. They do this everyday so I'm sure they know their game. Should I talk about TC number only or base? I'm in ASIC design.
No harm in telling your expectations. You can negotiate further once you have the offer from both companies.
They want to move forward with an offer but they want to know my number first. What number should I give.
You should do some research on salaries in Bay Area for a similar role, and then add 10-15% on top of that. You can tell your TC expectations as just base doesn’t really matter.
Ask them what is the range for the position that is being offered.
I asked them for a range and they wouldn't give me.
There were some posts on compensation negotiation recently. People had posted links to couple good blogs read them. They will be helpful in your negotiations
5 yoe may put you around 180k TC but more than one offer may help you to negotiate. Good luck
OP: Did you get an offer finally ?
I have in the past told recruiters I’m not comfortable discussing compensation at this state right now and will talk about it if we r near the offer stage, recruiters have respected this in the past
I'm in the offer stage right now
