A friend of mine was trying to negotiate an offer from Blend with his FB offer and Blend straight up rescinded their offer saying they can’t match. Is this kind of practice normal?
Good for him, much better to work at FB anyway
It’s a bit brusque. Probably means another candidate waiting in the wings.
How many times did he go back and forth trying to negotiate? If he does it too many times companies don't like that right?
Omg that just happened with me last week! It wasn’t with blend though, but another co. They didn’t even give me their best and final, just straight up saying they can’t match. Bye. And that’s After a week of negotiations. I didn’t think it was standard practice but shocked to hear that it’s happening elsewhere too. Some recruiters just suck.
Some recruiters just don't want to waste time trying to match companies that can obviously offer way more. They have a busy workload and if you already have a good offer, there's a low chance you'll take them anyways. In their eyes.
Not every company is willing to negotiate. It could just be company policy to make an offer, take it or leave it.
How is Blend btw
Maybe some of them are conscious about using their offer only to get better offer at other company. They probably thought they can’t compete against FB at all and assumed you didn’t have much interest in them even if comparable offer is given. Either they senses that from the candidate or they set up a policy to prevent such things happen. In short, whether that is justified or not, they didn’t want their offers to be used only for bargaining purpose for other company.
What’s wrong with that?
I don’t think rescinding the offer is necessary?
Well, you already declined the offer on your side by saying “this company offers more”. It tells then you are not going to accept their offer on the current terms and therefore it is treated as a decline.
