Id phrase your question as is it worth taking a 10k cut for remote work?

Sound realistic to me. I'm in a similar area and that comp is reasonable. But with mor yoe i think you should get more. Any bonus at the new job?

Simple way to math it. How long is your commute now? Mine is 3hours/day . That's more than 1/3 of the 8-9 hour /workday. I'd trade 10k for time.

remote work is 200% worth it, there's just so much quality of life improvement coming out of it.

Health care startups can be unstable. They can also be exciting. 120k Tc is okay and makes sense. The question is how long / what is the startup business’ long range value prop; what is the products’ growth trajectory?

      @Microsoft
I hear and partially agree with you :-

That said, you could retire very early if you have quite a bit of money.

Also, beyond basic needs money hasn’t really increased happiness for me. There was a poll the other day b/w choosing to becomePOTUS vs CEO of a fang and I was surprised vast majority chose CEO (for the sake of money).
      Sep 20
    • Infosys BRY47
@LinkedIn CEO of I presume any Fortune 500 company, not just FANG, is a less stressful job for more money. They really need to readjust the salary for POTUS so more people would strive to run for President.

    • Splunk TheBackend
No need to raise POTUS TC. The job comes with lifetime perks. And a network the size of LinkedIn’s entire database. Obama now gets that $400K base pay many times over—it’s now merely the stipend for an evening speaking engagement.

Agree, and even if not, you have a lifetime pension to live comfortably—why do you need the salary of FAANG?

They offered you a 10% pay cut and you think it is too good to be true???

I think the offer is not great. If they don’t offer you 100k TC, just reject.

100% remote is awesome. Some people trade money for work life balance and more time with their family. I'm making about 20% less than I should because I prefer the low stress, freedom and flexibility of my current job. Money isn't everything. Not even close.

Traveling is not a perk. After the first month it will get old. You will feel tired and worn out. Also this is crappy offer if you are SWE

I travel once per week to essentially random locations and feel the same. Love it, until multiple trips pile up. Then it kinda sucks, because you get detached from your home life.

Miles and points don’t necessarily bring value. If you’re traveling 70% of the time, the last thing you want to do is travel more on vacation.

Doesn’t seem like it is better? Unless you are really going for a remote role? Ask them to at least match base. Usually you ask for 20% higher

Are you getting more or less responsiblity than now?

If more, you absolutely deserve more.

Big question- do they know your current TC?

If you told them- you're boned. If you haven't-

Tell them you're making 110 right now and taking a 20k pay cut. You would be happy with 100k, it's less of a hit for the convenience of wfh.

People are more likely to buy something that cost $19.99 than $20.00. So this is kind of true.
      Sep 21
    • GoDaddy / Mgmt Danica
I learned this in management training going over compensation. When someone asks for something ending in 0 they are more likely to take a lower number. When they ask for a number that doesn’t end in 0 they are more likely to be firm on that number.
      Sep 21
    • HP / Data Abor10
Only when that zero puts it in another category of price. For example, psychologically, 29.99 sounds cheaper that 30 because the biggest number is one less. So 99,999 would do the trick

Everyone has a different scale of what is enough money. Ignore those comments. Equal or more is what you need to look for. Equal means you are desperate to leave or there is a big upside.
