Hello

I have 3 offers and sort of wanted to brainstorm here on different offers. I have 3 years of experience in US as Software Engineer(backend) plus 3 years in India as a firmware engineer. They are all offering software Engineering role.
3 offers are (base/rsu over 4 years/sign on bonus/ yearly bonus/401k match)

1. Amazon AWS elastic search in Palo Alto
141k/110k/91k/perf based/2% for first 3 years

2. WePay
220k/ 0/40k/40k/0

3. Salesforce Infrastructure team
165k/145k/20k/10% of base min/ 6%

Any help is really appreciated. I have attached poll for getting a better insight and comments are welcome too.

    Is that SDE2 at AWS?

If it's SDE1 then pass, not because yoe (maybe your skills are SDE1) but it'll take you at least 2 years to get to 2 and you don't want that.

So they told me I am in border of L4 and L5 and might be put on fast track to L5, but again its performance based and might be just one of the things recruiter says.

That is rated as the most popular 💩 sold by recruiters 😂

Yeah don't buy that fast track bs. You will be at the mercy of a bunch of managers who don't know you yet and have other folks they want to promote.

Yeah, don't bank on the fast track thing. I've seen it happen, but more likely than not, it won't, because it is dependent on factors outside your control. Also, it's something you can't hold them to at all.

Any particular reason for saying Salesforce? Really curious since you are from Amazon.

I’m leaving Amazon, been there far too long. If you want a company that actually gives a shit about their employees and still
Interesting work then Salesforce it is

Not as risky as a startup. Reasons for other options?

Probably because Amazon and Salesforce have good brand name. Plus Amazon team seems like a good tech stack to work for. But still exploring because don’t want to go on just brand name.

What are you looking for in a new job? Finer details would help.

Challenging job role where I actually learn, develop and grow as an engineer. Deal with actual scaling problems, face customer issues due to that, make good customer impact.

^ I think u have pretty much answered ur own question. AWS is distinctly the best of ur options. Also, when u think about joining a company, think about what other products/problems u will get to work on in the time to come. Amazon will provide u consistently with cool and challenging (at scale) problems to work on.

My 2 cents would be to avoid taking a level drop as it would take your career back by couple of years

Also wepay has great career growth(from LinkedIn profiles) and decent stack. All cash is a safe bet. Win win

It's the same thing. There's no senior software engineer title internally. But the job description might state SSE

Amazon has no yearly bonus, why are you saying it's perf based?
    May 21 3
    • Cisco zJoP51
      OP
The yearly bonus is in form of RSUs which is decided by your performance. Same is true for yearly hike. That is what is mentioned in the offer letter
      May 21
    • Uber vаr
You can have great performance, but if AMZN goes up a lot you will get no RSUs and no yearly hike.
      May 21
    • Bayer / IT Genie_22
Well what you just said is a performance bonus....you had great performance, AMZN stocks did super well....then your RSUs for that year is worth way more than they should...the delta is your bonus.

I’m failing to see how you did not get a bonus for your performance?
