Microsoft Redmond L60 (intern to fulltime) Base - 118K Stocks - 130K/ 4 years Signon - 50k Annual bonus: 10% Google MTV L3 Base - 130k Stocks - 192k / 4years Signon -20k Annual - 15% Which one to go for?
Money when you are young, older self will thank you
Lol. Idk why people voted for google. WLB at Msft is way better. The TC looks like 160 with base and stocks at MSFT and 178 at Google. That’s a difference of ~10%. Now add state taxes and living expenses to Google’s pay check and you’re actually making more in Redmond. Also, joining bonus is 30K more. If you stay at MSFT for 2 years, split the joining bonus by 2 and add to TC. That actually means you make more money at MSFT if you join for 2 years.
Lol you’re forgetting refreshers at google as well as the name that google provides. It’s not even close. The exit ops for future is so much better for google. You’ll be making 250k in like 2-3 years.
Google has better brand, growth and refreshers
Take MS offer google is just propaganda and the Bay area is so expensive the ok house in MTV around $2M.
Google is so much better. Most of my friends who joined MSFT just did nothing for 4-5 years.
Your google TC after tax is 130K. Your Microsoft TC after tax is 121K. No if you add cost of living into account, you will have more cash at the end of the year at Microsoft compare to Google. However, if you found the project in MSFT too boring, maybe don’t take the job. If you are in Azure you might not have more WLB compare to google. People are doing overtime this moment right now. Also, some team in MSFT requires you to be on-call. That’s means two weeks of lost of productivity every 3 - 4 months. Stock wise, maybe ask for 3.5 years vesting period?
The pay for each is comparable. I get that Microsoft is a bit more when COL is taken into account. I would say Google is better to have on your resume. As someone who has not worked at a FANG company, Google always sounds like the best of the best
Blind has a hard-on for Google. The Google offer is around the same as MSFT when you take into account taxes and cost of living. Microsoft is doing more interesting things than Google right now in a lot of areas (ex. Azure, hardware), Google better than MSFT in a few others (ex. Brain, Search). Take the team you're more interested in. They're both great places to work. If I was in your shoes and I thought the teams were similar, I'd probably take MSFT for a few reasons: * The Seattle area is a lot nicer to live in than the Bay in my opinion. Cheaper and more variety of people/places/things to do, everything isn't just tech. * MSFT is the only bigTechCorp whose WLB is better than Google (unless you're in Azure). * Satya is an amazing CEO and I only see things getting better at MSFT while he's at the helm. Reasons not to go to Google: * Google has been having a lot of culture problems lately. The company is over-politicized (SJW culture) * Google has engineering culture issues. They encourage building things (which is great) but punish people who maintain what they've built by limiting career growth. Seems like they've been in maintenance mode for the past couple of years--they won't even set market rate for talent. * I'm betting that if Google doesn't get eng culture get back on-track, in 5 or so years they'll lose the prestige value they've historically had. There's a reason some people call Google an "adult retirement home". * Promos at Google are a PITA compared to other places. Committees are slow and bureaucratic.
Take the money man, Google is so much more
How much more do you think google is? Did you read the location is Mountain View? I would take Microsoft, it’s a great offer.
I've lived in both cities, the offer in MTV is still better than Redmond
