Recently went through the interview process with OCI, I’m fairly certain I will be receiving an offer this week. What are your opinions on OCI as an employer and product? I have extremely limited knowledge about Oracle as a company other than what the media describes them as (which isn’t great). OCI seems solid IMO but wanted some second opinions.
Have an interview lined up with them as well. How many rounds did you have in the loop and what was the level of difficulty in your opinion?
I mean they were laughed out of JEDI so that's what the government thinks of their infra.... but rumor has it they have good WLB so there's that.
Been here long enough years. No complaints. How can you complain when a poorly paid Microsoft employee finally given opportunity to shine and make some money. Only time lay-off happened was this year when old and new cloud orgs were merged and things needed to be aligned. Fear tactics of layoffs has no basis. It’s like any other company and actually better than most. Yes I drank the koolaid. Tc from 130 to 550 in a few years is a good enough reason. Being promoted thrice didn’t hurt either. And I never worked over 40 hrs nor I stay after 5p If you wanna grow, there is no better place. I wrote promo docs for over five people in my team alone in the past one year. But at the end of the day it’s your call.
What's your level? Also how is the attrition rate? Finding it hard to hire?
Some people moved to different teams within oci. Very few left, but for their own reasons. I personally have not seen anyone leaving from my team due to oci reasons. I did see one person from another team leaving because he was not happy. His situation was a bit complicated. Will take time to explain. Overall, from my view, very little attrition. Not hard to hire. But the lay off didn’t help for sure.
I got an offer from OCI recently. Everyone seemed friendly and intelligent. Compensation was okay, but not great. You can get them up higher if you have competing offers. From what I hear they have great wlb, but my concern is they’re so late to cloud. But they do have a lot of enterprise customers for their other products, so I’m sure they’ll capture some of those customers
Any specific interview questions? Is the loop going to be same as Amazon for PM?
All the folks who joined OCI, from Azure. I am talking senior folks L 64 and up. All have come back. Oracle doesn’t believe in OCI anymore. That was the reason for layoffs and budget cuts. I joined in 2016, things were great back then till early 2018. Things have gone downhill since then, they have had massive attrition. Once I came back to Azure, multiple folks pinged me on LinkedIn from OCI and they are all looking to leave.
Go for it if you are not on visa
Don't go to OCI..lots of reorgs going on and offers being taken back..waste of time
Couple of my friends offers were put on hold
