Been reading Investopedia, Options Bro, etc. But I’m more of a hands on learner and though I feel I roughly understand the concepts upon reading strategy after strategy definitions and examples, when it comes to making moves with my own actual money I haven’t quite gotten that confidence yet. Curious to hear what other resources, be it books/videos/online courses/mock trading exercises others may have come across that they found really effective in making it “click”, at least enough so to make the leap with their own $. Subsequently, has it been worth it?
There might be better books now but, years ago when I started, I used The options playbook by Brian Overby to understand the most common options strategies and when to use them.
Checkout tastytrades.com best resource to learn options trading and all the different strategies. Start with their Where Do I Start series. Learn about greeks and how to affect options pricing and how are greeks affected by the price movement of the underlying. They teach how to sell options. Not big on buying options for a good reason. PM me if you’d want to learn more.
Stop wasting your time on books and online tutorials. The best way to learn is to start trading small with the real money. Start with defined risk strategies and work your way up. You’ll make tons of mistakes and lose lots of money until it ‘clicks’. But in the end you’ll get there. Options are complicated, and it will take time (years) to get a good feeling and find the strategies that work for you.
This is a good advice, you will never learn untill u trade with realmoney. Statt small and defined risk spreads. Never sell naked unless u are an expert. Know your greeks tho and what do they do to your option prices. I have been doing it since 1.5 years and still learning. Start by learning to sell and learn to manage trades if they go in the wrong direction. Thats the beauty of options, you can always save and reduce your Max Loss
Ya I certainly planned on starting small, just want to go into it as best equipped as I can. It’s always that first move that’s the hardest to make (been my experience anyway), first trade jitters I guess.
