Oracle verbal offer...

Amazon / Design !==!
Aug 6, 2018 35 Comments

Got a verbal offer from Oracle 10 days ago. They gave details on TC. Sent benefits info etc. Have not yet gotten a formal offer letter however. I’ve heard the process there is pretty slow but is this amount of time normal?

Lately, you won't get an offer letter until you verbally accept.

Can take up to a month between verbal and offer letter with Oracle.

Don’t quit your current job until you have it. Even if it’s verbal, it’s not confirmed until you have the letter.

Shouldn’t that be a red flag they are pressuring you like that? Serious I’m trying to leave OCI...I hate it here and don’t recommend anyone joining.

I’m just as eager to get started. There’s good work to be done for a designer, though I imagine for an engineer it’s way different.

Just take every OCI value and negate it...and there’s one person here that does that...especially management.

It can take a long time to get offer out, I would recommend waiting for a formal offer before quitting.

Try 1.5 years... As the manager it is so frustrating cause no matter what you do you have no control.

For design? This isn’t engineering so I assume lower than engineering roles.

Awesome, thanks all! I’ll assume about a month. That’s kind of sad.

    • Keep interviewing. You might get something better. But it will be too late to use it for negotiations.

    Is Oracle sponsoring H1B Visa?

      Nope, I’m a US citizen. I imagine it’d take eons for H1B.

      What's the TC?

Totally agree. I had a verbal offer in the past and after making me wait for few months, they said can't extend offer because of the budget cut. Don't rely on their verbal offer.

The offer could also not get approved so nothing is official until you get the letter.

It can take months to get the written offer. I was a returning hire and the process from the manager to the immediate VP took less than a week (1-2 days I think) after the background check which took 2 days. After that for the higher level VP signatures it took several months. They do not pre-budget for headcount in most cases, so when they want to hire somebody they have to propose for the higher.

I’m in a similar boat with another company. Have gotten verbal offer and ‘necessary approvals’ but no offer letter. Can someone who has been a hiring manager/recruiter throw some light on why companies take so much time? What is the company strategy here?
