Ouch, Amazon

Just spent the last two months prepping for an interview with Amazon for a Solutions Architect position in LA. Found out Monday after completing The Loop last week that I didn't get it. Massively disappointing, especially as they do not provide feedback as a policy.

Trying to view this as a growth opportunity. I'm a mostly on-prem servers/storage/networking guy but I really want to transition to cloud architecture. I'm about to test for certified AWS solutions architect after completing the ACG course. Wondering if the community here has input on what I should do next.

The recruiter encouraged me to keep applying at Amazon for similar roles (not sure if that's just lip service). Anyone have experience getting hired at Amazon after failing an on site for one role?

Would love to work at MS or Google on their cloud teams (referrals anyone?? Lol) but are there any other good options for transitioning to cloud that I'm not considering?

I failed my first onsite for an L4 role. Got hired a year later at L5.

    Keep your head up.

Cool, yeah definitely going to keep going on the certs. This upcoming test is associate level but maybe I'll keep learning and cert higher.

Can you suggest in which certification is good for someone starting out in cloud?

Brand new- Cloud Practitioner. Note that this wont help you land a job but will help you understand cloud better so you can get the more important certs. Solutions Architect Pro is the best but that’s hard, Solutions Architect Associate is a good “advanced beginner” cert and might help you land a job

Yeah, every email from every recruiter has that as part of their signature. What's irksome about it is that they ask for feedback about the interview process but won't provide feedback about the actual interview.

It was in the NDA that I signed for the onsite that no feedback will be provided.

Had the same thing at AWS a month ago. Same position but in the ProServe side. One guy even said great interview but don’t be surprised if you recycle through....

Anyway, got contacted Monday from a Google recruiter and have on sites already setup 3 days later. Keep your head up, check GCP and Azure openings. You got to the on sites, so your resume tells a story, there’s people who don’t get that far, so it’s probably just interviewing experience vs non FAANG places.
