Parental advice

For the folks with kids, how did you manage your work with a new born? I can only take 8 weeks parental leave. Did you guys have a nanny take care of the baby post parental leave?

We were fortunate to have family members help; otherwise we would have hired a nanny to cover daytime working hours.

Thank you! For the first few months? When is it okay to put the kid in day care?

We put our kid in daycare starting at the 3 months mark. We had to enroll basically within a couple weeks of finding out we were expecting in order to get a spot, though!

Daycares start taking kids at 6 weeks. Nannys are great because you don't need to prepare anything or drop your kid off and they can do some housework and meal prep. We've done both with different kids, at different times. You can't go wrong as long as they're safe.

thank you! How do you monitor the nanny? How do you determine if they are safe? We are first time parents. Good to hear from parents who have been through this.

As a rough estimate cost wise, day cares are about $1500 (maybe $2500 for a fancy one) and nanny are in the ballpark of $20/hr

$20*8hrs/day*22 days. That's a lot.

Hard to sustain if both parents don’t have high paying jobs

We both work through the week. Hesitant to send baby to day care yet. Might have to just bite the bullet and pay for a nanny.

Newborn babies need to be fed and changed every two hours. So get used to working on little sleep

Get a family member to live with you. At least first 3mo. Postpartum depression is a thing.
