Without a bachelor’s, it’s so hard to get in anywhere. I’ve been passed up by Yelp, Ziprecruiter, T&N, all because I don’t have a degree. I come from a small area back east, so having the 5+ years of experience isn’t gonna cut it either. Any tips or pointers for getting in somewhere as basically a stock employee?
Learn how to code and build something valuable, no one will care about you not having a bachelors
Phoenix area. Need I say more? Solution here should be obvious.
I know several people in engineering with an AA and no Bachelors in CompSci. They either learned to code via a community college classes and learned enough proficiency to become software testers, or learned PowerShell/Python and picked up enough Windows Server or Linux Server Containers experience to get out of Helpdesk and into IT. You just need to decide on your tech stack (Linux or Windows) and your area of expertise (networking, OS deployments, databases like SQL/MySQL, storage, virtualization, etc.) and go for it. Good luck!
Build something cool and you will get a good job.
Move. I'm not being flippant or condescending.
I’ve only been here 3 years, can’t afford to move again.
