I'm a Junior going thru the process of interviews for my first internship. Dream is to move from Los Angeles to San Francisco after college to work for a FANG company. Will it negatively effect me if I intern with a less prestigious company like say a City Government department- with an old tech stack and little challenge? Or do companies just view any relevant work experience as a plus when evaluating new grads? *I applied for several roles both SWE intern and PM intern in Los Angeles and SF and better options may still come thru in Jan and Feb but I fear turning down the City gig and ending up with no Spring 2020 internship at all? I'm first generation college student and afraid of making wrong career move as I need a really good TC after college to care for my kid and my elderly mom :/ *3.67 Gpa , no name school in CA. No connections to people in tech.
Accept first. If there’s a better offer, renege
It does make some noticeable difference. If you interview at FAANG then it will be easier to get interview for full time positions at other FAANG. Clearing the interviw is entirely upto you and your internship wont matter but for getting the interview the internship will matter. if you go to a top school or have great grades at a good state school that can compensate for your internship
You are overthinking this.
Internship with prestigious tech company is better than internship with no name company. But both are better than no internship. I agree that if this is your only offer at this point and you don't have any certainty of getting a better offer, you should accept the offer you have now.
It's always better to have some experience rather than no experience.
