"Prestigious" Gaming Companies?

Besides EA and Blizzard and maybe Epic Games, are there any other companies you'd consider prestigious or that others in the gaming industry really want to work at?

    Ew, Epic?

I think Bungie, now that they have stopped working with Activision, sounds like a good place to be.

I mean the launcher is basically in beta yeah, but without exclusives it’s impossible to get nearly as much growth. Anyways, amazing place to work with plenty outside of the store and on bigger vision stuff.

    • I'm enjoying the free store games every 2 weeks and wish them the best of luck offering better terms to developers than Valve. Valve is one of my all time favorite devs, but competition in a space is not a bad thing.

How is it an anti-consumer business practice? Games being exclusive on a free launcher doesn’t effect consumers negatively in any way

The anti-Epic sentiment is not justified. They're smart and are going to disrupt the standard 70:30 split which is great for gamers and devs everywhere.

I think people who complain about the store also miss the fact that it’s trying to “strike while the iron is hot”. Fortnite is drawing millions of people to the Epic Games launcher. Way more than Steam gets for any of its games. Getting a store launched while those numbers are high is how you make a store. How Steam launched with Half Life 2. Without HL2 there’d be no Steam (like it is now). So waiting a couple years so it launched with all the bells and whistles would have possibly missed the hot iron.

Riot is large and solving some really difficult problems. I’d say it’s a prestigious place to work.

With the horrible work culture and the scandal at Riot there is nothing prestigious about that company

Hey SwiftUIGuy, it's actually a pretty damn good work culture.

Shame you read things uncritically without evaluating what might be going on.

For example on Glassdoor I read the following about Proactis:

They don't care about their staff. They foster a culture of bullying by line managers, which gets ignored when reported. There are no opportunities for advancement. The pay is well below what it should be. There is a lot of micromanagement. The culture is all about saving pennies at the expense of staff moral. No training or development opportunities are ever available.

I would evaluate that carefully before drawing broad conclusions. I think you should evaluate your position carefully too. If you have questions or concerns bring them up and I'll answer them for you.

The difference is you read that from a single Glassdoor review while there are multiple reports of Riot having a toxic culture

Yeah. Nintendo tops the prestigious list obviously. They defined some many genres, so many game mecanics, they defined the game console.
But prestige doesn't necessarily mean I would want to work there.

they have a large presence in Montreal as well. I definitely think that's one of the best gaming companies

    • My experience there was that Ubi are cheap in-sourcers who underpay local talent across their global studios and only respect devopers originally from France.

what do we know about rockstar, square enix and Bethesda?
    Jul 2 1
    • From what I know Rockstar NY is fun but most people stay there for life (much longer tenure than Silicon Valley companies). Square is mostly Japan other than Crystal Dynamics which is right in Redwood City. Seems nice. Bethesda - you’ll need to move to Maryland
