We are attempting to hire quality candidates but our principal engineer believes we should hire anyone that can prove they can code even a little bit...the candidate they interviewed is the worst hire I have ever worked with. Not motivated, leaves work mid day regularly, doesnt learn, doesnt accomplish anything...we code up what he needs to do after he harasses us for days. Is this a common theme? Im about to pull my remaining hair out on this team. Makes faang very attractive merely based on their interview process...or is this shotty too?
That's depressing. At least we pip really lazy employees here and give alright bonuses when credit is due. Also we're hiring~

Many, if not most people are at Cisco because they couldn't crack coding interviews. Apparently can't spell principal engineer either 😊 Other than those, perhaps a small minority is their for the WLB.
Or it’s just their first job, ya know? That’s what happened to me. It was my first job. Did 2 years, hated it after 6 months but wanted to hit the 2 year mark for my resume. Didn’t know about LC or this TC game when I first started out. A lot of people are oblivious

The whole point of working at Cisco is wfh and wlb. For those wanting to work your ass off, aren't there are better places where you can do a lot more interesting work and/or earn a lot more??
The quality of tech lead, principal engineers have dropped significantly in the last 10 years. They all do lip services and got very little done, if any at all.

That is exactly the cisco culture . I feel the same . Cisco hires mediocre people mostly on contractors (not all but many) , and main focus is politics , turf wars not the actual work .in the name wlb , people are busy playing politics rather than actually building stuff . There are many people who put their heart and soul in their work at cisco but it is not respected. Sad but true
