So I have an interesting career decision before me, maybe some others can relate? I currently work at a small 6 person design firm with a 20+ year history in the local area. This is also my first solid, full time, employment after graduating. Originally I had expected to work here for a year or two and then move on...I am at that one year now. What prompts the decision before me, and my question, is that the company is currently undergoing a transformation and the partners are looking into what the future of the company is going to be, and what kind of work to pursue; I have an active say in what that future is. Not only that but they are likely to retire in the next 2-5 years, and they are clearly hinting that I along with two others would be handed the reigns. I’m uncertain now as to what the wisest choice is, to stay or go? Obviously I cannot claim to have a lot of industry experience and my career is just starting! My personal goals are in developing a UI/UX skill set, and I worry about what learning experiences I miss by staying. Has anyone gone through a similar experience? Or stayed with one company early on in their career and regretted it down the road?

It really depends on which one motivates you more. Small companies you can learn more and grow faster in many cases and you can use that experience to your advantage that working for a large company cannot gives. My only regret has been staying at a comfy job for too long because of family reason and got rusty.
