How much of your choice to enter an Engineering profession was based on your interest in it alone versus famalial/parental, societal/cultural, economic/class etc. pressures? If it was more due to outside factors than say your deliberate attempt, then what would you have liked to have done as far as a profession is concerned if the choice was wholly yours?
solely based on my own interest, they actually didnt want me to pursue CS because they thought "IT doesn't have a bright future"
My parents wanted me to be a doctor.
My dad wanted me to follow his footsteps and become a doctor. Was always too grossed out with blood and that shit though.
I just didn't know what else was there to do 😂. For most of us, education was the only way towards survival. It promises decent salary and food on your plate.

💯 Interest I think those who do this field of work who doesn't come from a background of genuine passion are the ones who keep posting need-help posts (not limited to need technical help either)
Wanted me to be a doctor, but I always preferred English
I found at age 12 that programming was the only thing I was good at(and not very good even at that) Parents wanted me to be doctor like them. But I couldn't give a rat's ass
Came to school as a film studies student, accidentally finished a cs degree instead
cinema studies right?
It was called film studies at my school, but j am sure they are more or less the same thing
My parents actually didn’t want me to do engineering of any sorts
You couldn't even become a dentist to obey their wishes?
You let down your parents. Are you happy ?
