What is the age you think you would be able to retire at? Realistic answer please.
Nobody ever retires in the US. Sad but true.
There's the whole FIRE trend now. Though a small percentage, more people making upper middle class pay are aiming for 40-50% savings rate post tax to get out of the rat race. Save a lot, then set up passive income from rentals or equities. Many likely keep side jobs to keep themselves busy even though they are FI.
30 is the hard goal. 35 is easier and 40 is no brainer. 35 is a good age to allow you to grow and build more meaningful connections before quitting. Quitting too early at 30 may feel like you missed the full tech experience
Want to retire at, or able to retire at? We may be able to retire long before we would choose to.
Able to. I "want to" retire at 30 but I may not be "able to".
I will probably be able to retire by 45 or 50 but I don't plan to retire until I *can't* do my job and more.
