Robinhood vs Airbnb vs Facebook as new grad

Considering joining Robinhood or Airbnb as a new grad instead of returning to FB (prev intern). TC at Robinhood/Airbnb is slightly higher, but rsu is not liquid.

What are the pros and cons of choosing one or the other?

Here’s what I thought of so far:

Pros of Facebook:
- Seattle (Lower CoL and no state income tax)
- Good mentorship
- Strong resume entry/prestige
- Job Security
Cons of Facebook:
- Lower TC ($20k/yr less)
- Hiring bar seems to get lower each year; it might not be a great place to work in 2-3 yrs (dispell this rumor if im wrong)
- Not ideal trajectory rn

Pros of Robinhood/Airbnb:
- Large upside (IPO soon)
- Prestigious
- I can have higher impact on the company
Cons of Robinhood/Airbnb:
- Interviews were pretty easy. it seems like they’re just mass hiring
- Not that excited about their products
- Unsure about engineering quality (I never worked at a startup)
- Most of their engineers look like new grads/low experience

TC at FB: 200
TC at startups: 220

    OP
I decided to go to Facebook. I’m actually 20 years old and just have a B.Sc (graduated super early).

I felt like my career growth potential would be on average better at Facebook. I’m not at a stage in life where I can take too many financial risk (my family is poor; mom recently has cancer), so that was also a factor as to why I chose the safe route.

On top of this, I want to work on my own projects while working and I feel like FB has better WLB for me.

Despite the TC difference, I think I’d get more take home due to Seattle, better perks (relo, free housing for 1 mo, etc).

I think once I raise enough capital and my family is financially stable, I will re-explore the startup scene. For now, I’ll just grind @ FB.

Congratulations! I’d say go with AirBnB or Robinhood. You can join Facebook after a year or whenever you want. Joining a well established start up is rare.

Cons of facebook: Seattle. Airbnb is not IPOing soon, they do not have a CFO. Neither is robinhood, too early. Facebook probably hires 10x as many new grads as airbnb/robinhood so mass hiring shouldnt really be a con for the startups. That being said, you should probably go to airbnb or robinhood, whichever one is more interesting to you

I can change location to MPK or NY, but I preferred Seattle because of $$. Thanks for the input!

Seattle is the biggest pro there. He can fly to SF every weekend and still save a ton with equal TC.

Why fly to SF? Not like it's less of a sausage fest

If I were you, I’d join Robinhood. Airbnb and FB are too large, not a lot of opportunities to learn and make impact

Airbnb for SF location (or FB if you can join NYC office). Cities are better lifestyle for new grads, and I’d say NYC > SF > SEA > MPK

How is your tc at fb 200? Even with rockstar, the offer is 110 base / 220 rsu / 100 signing right ? Isn’t that only 190 TC over 4 years

Why would you split sign on? You get it first month. TC should go up every half for next 4 years. So 200 probably included full sign on.

I know someone with a Masters degree with 200k TC @ Facebook. Not a returning intern but a rockstar developer nonetheless.
