Reading the news I found that some senator stopped S386 earlier, because it will prevent bringing 5000 nurses from overseas via H1B. https://cis.org/Vaughan/Senate-Action-Expected-S386-HR1044 Later they changed the document to have a consent, but I am wondering what is wrong with this country that it has to import thousands of NURSES every year?
Yeah, it makes sense for our struggling healthcare system to import talent for work that can only be done in the US. Software can always be deployed anywhere in the world
There's a shortage of nursing schools. I don't know why. The process is way more competitive for interested students than it should be.
To those opposing the bill saying it only benefits folks from India, It’s as foolish as saying civil rights movement only benefited the African Americans or universal franchise only benefited women. Think about it. We are talking about employment based category. How is country of birth relevant when it comes to employment? Only skills and employability.
Yes, change to a merit based system then. No one is arguing against that. Removing the country cap only is effectively screwing everybody else other than Indian. There's no fairness in this argument, only interest. Don't cover it up with some noble causes. That's bs.
This bill is the step towards merit based system since the current law discriminates based on country of birth
If this passes, over 70% if not 90% of green cards will be taken by Indians. How is it fair??
That’s because, Indian applicants have been unfairly kept in a backlogged state for more than a decade.
Employment based category should not discriminate based on country of birth. It should purely be based on skill and employability. That’s what this bill does. Clearing the backlog is just a by product of this fairness bill.
I have an inside. They are ready to give 17000(!) Visa for nurces. Imagine how redeculous that would be... they will screw ROW, but waiting time for bachloggers will still be very high
As an India, even I am opposing bill S386. I know that Indian has had a bad reputation for resume fraud an abusing H1b system with multiple application per person. These should be solved first before we initiating bills like s-386.
Exactly. Fix the abuse first. Then we can talk about S386
Probably because you already have a green card. Typical Indian behavior
Say no to HR1044 and S386 and put a cap on H1B transfers! Hurts diversity and US workers!
Chill. The bill failed due to David Perdue.
Proof?
Just now the bill got blocked by 3 senators
