SWE and RS google salary NYC

I wanted to know the difference between the salary fo SWE and RS (research scientist) Is it a big gap? my SWE base salary is 135k. Also, I got an offer from another company with the RS title (base salary is only 140k). Should i leave google for a while? and then come back later (say after 2 years) to apply for RS position?
