I have about 280k in 2 Silicon valley tech stocks. (30% of savings) 20% of savings on vanguard vtsax type funds. Ive heard here that one should diversify stocks/funds to global. Is the stocks vs fund vs other savings distribution ok? How to change it so dont lose much if recession hits soon?
^^^
Where is your other 50% savings? Hopefully not cash / checking account? You typically don't want to be overweight in individual stocks like you are. Maybe ~10٪ of portfolio. Then 6mos expenses in high yield savings (Goldman Marcus, Ally, etc), then rest in whatever mix of stock/bond index funds fits your objectives. for me it's all into VTSAX. If this is long term / retirement investing than recession is irrelevant. if your timeline is 20-30+ years then a couple bad years means nothing. Anyone that stayed firm thru 08-10 recession has come out roses. Recommend buying book on Amazon called A Simple path to wealth by JL Collins
Rest in CD.
50% of your life savings is in CD's? Then you are already way over conservative. yikes. Your money will never grow sitting in 2% CD's. You really need to read some quality investing books, if you have nearly 300k in 2 individual tech stocks and 50% of savings in super low risk low reward CD's.
This is how recession will be triggered. People will start moving money to safe places and that will make market crash
Dont just sit on it or wait for the market to set you up...do smtn with it that will double ur money in 3-4 years. The market cant do that. Fyi >90% of millionaires are involved in real estate for their money growth.
Buy a giant (giant) safe. Sell all your stocks, bonds. Put your money in the safe. Once the recession officially starts, join your money in the giant safe. Don’t come out till the recession is over.
Good deals on a safe?
The best
How many years have you been working?Your net worth is great
Sell stocks. Buy total market index funds. The market will always go up and you don't need the money today.
So 0% of savings in stocks, and 50% in funds?
Index funds are not recession-proof.
