I am trying to evaluate 2 offers between Salesforce (Director of Product) and Dropbox (Sr. TPM)
Would people be kind enough to tell me what they like and dislike in each company and suggest which one to take?

I have enjoyed the conversation with both so far and not sure about how to make a decision.
Both projects are interesting. And both have nice growth trajectories from talking with management about it specifically in follow up calls.

Would be awesome if people who answer the poll just say what makes them tick. Please!

DB: 205/350/40

Thank you,

Cannot believe people actually recommend Salesforce over other companies

If you're looking to strengthen your politicking skills, then join Salesforce. If you're actually looking to grow, go to a better company

Politics is necessary evil. Better to get good at it than run away from it.

Salesforce is great. May be my colleagues in other teams have different experience but I have only positive experiences to share. You will get a refresher as Director

^ Agreed. Dropbox is toast if Google, MS and Apple ever create a shared cloud for consumers. That being said, I'd still take Dropbox because of the massive comp difference. If the stock drops precipitously, you can always move to Salesforce (or elsewhere)

What worries me is that they offer lots of stock and see the stock price tank over time.

Do we know where does the stock generosity comes from?
Actually do the numbers look good?

Would you discard the title at salesforce (and high base) for potential future change?

Salesforce tends to have lower comp and really very little engineering work - more maintenance. Very little innovation, wouldn't be excited to be a TPM there personally nor work on things I would then be proud to speak of later

Depends on cloud. There is tons of good work happening.

🤔 Can you elaborate? I've been around most of infra but less product, so I only really can think of the work behind Einstein as relatively interesting

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I am very lost in terms of making the decision. If TC was similar would you have changed your vote? Do you think the comps are fair? (10YOE)

Most of TC variations are in equity. Look at which one offers the best chance to grow adjusted for risk.

Yes! I’m talking to managers to have their vision on the matter. I’m mostly hesitant given Product vs Program management would be slightly better long term. But I may be mistaken

Haven’t heard about that team. A couple of things though. Drop offers refreshers and the culture is great. PM if you have more questions

To make sure I understand, what is your annual totals here? I would guess Salesforce offer, based on your description, is 220 base, 150k/4years of stock and 40k annual or signing bonus, (therefore 297.5k Annual TC) is that correct?

      40k is signing bonus.
Annual bonus is 20% of base. The rest is correct.
Since I posted Dropbox offer became
      210/400/40.

Just FYI, yearly refreshers are common for folks at Director level.

I’d choose Salesforce. They have stronger business model than Dropbox.

Salesforce is good from a business perspective, but Dropbox's comp is significantly higher. They probably actually have refreshers too. The brand is also solid, so I would recommend Dropbox here. The culture at Salesforce is great, but I imagine a Director would have to work pretty hard...

If you are getting yearly refreshers at Salesforce which is usually not the case then Salesforce for sure
