I get that local Seattleites hate Amazon, but what do they say about Microsoft? I'm sure they like Microsoft because Gates is from Seattle and his company gives back to the city way more than "frugality" driven leadership principles of Mr Bezos. What are some of your insights about this? Should Amazonians quit and go back to where they came from? Should they give back to the city? What can they do to make Seattleites hate them less?
Non-techies be hating on techies of all companies.
Seattle do not hate Amazon, it’s a few agitated liberals that do. The city is thriving on businesses like Amazon partly because unlike other tech giants we give back to the community. For example, by eating out and using other services of local small businesses.
I think that does not count in “giving back”. If there were no Amazon, there would be some other company with tons of employees who can eat out and locally grow the economy. Its just not amazon folks, unless you mean that Amazon folks blow all of their $150k packages on eating out.
Well, we have google and Facebook here as well, and I’m yet to see their employees on the streets or in local establishments for lunch or snacks ;-)
Facebook owo & Amazon azmix: I'm sorry; but you're both wrong. i dont hate techies. nerds are awesome. people of diverse backgrounds are awesome. pressure on old-fashioned local companies to raise salaries is awesome. i'm not an agitated or crazy far leftie/liberal. i was born & raised in this area. since amzn moved in, traffic has doubled or tripled transportation times. there's even traffic at crazy hours (e.g. midday saturday). cost of living has also skyrocketed, propelling seattle to be highest in the nation (worst gap between incomes & rental prices.) hiking trails are so crowded... even trailheads 4-6hours away on a thursday. insane. i all but gave up the search for solitude here. seattle used to be quirky, gritty, industrial, and a haven for intellectuals & artists. i dont get that vibe anymore. everything is so......shiny. every true local misses the way things used to be. microsoft blended in. amazon was hostile takeover. worst decision our incompetent city council ever made.
It's fun because decades ago people complained about Boeing in a similar way
In terms of giving back to the community, MS (and especially Paul Allen) range much much higher than AMZN. Btw, eating out and use other service is a business transaction, you pay for the service you wanted. That not giving back.
I’m not even from here, and I dislike the effect that amazon has had on the city
Honestly I think at this point there's nothing that can be done to shift attitudes, it's a bit of a feedback loop.
