Should I renege?

Already accepted an offer without equity from a unicorn. One week later, another public company gave me an offer.

The base salary is the same but they gave me 20k rsu yearly. Is it worth reneging? Personally, I felt that the unicorn has will have more reputation on my resume and I could grow more as a junior developer

20k is nothing. Is that a price you’re willing to sell your integrity? The fact that you’d even consider it to the point of posting on Blind is pretty disappointing.

Integrity? This is business, full stop.

Not surprised to see lack of integrity encouraged from an Amazon employee.

Hiding behind the ominous “business” shouldn’t give you a carte blanche to act without integrity. But that’s the thing about integrity; you‘re free to act however you please but you’re not free from judgement.

  • Reneging is totally fine and does not matter. Choose whichever one you would choose if you hadn’t already accepted the 🦄

Tell the unicorn you unexpectedly got another offer and see what they say. 20k if it goes straight into an index fund will conservatively double every 10 years. When you retire in 30 years it will be 160k if not more.

If you haven't already started working - it might be in your best interest to revisit your offer.

Unicorn should at least be able to provide you some stock options if not an increase in the base pay.

But, Which side are you on at the moment?

Leaning towards staying with the unicorn right now. I don’t think I could negotiate anymore since I accepted. It is also likely to ipo within next year but I don’t think it matters?

What's the location? Since you are just starting out - I don't think 20k will hurt you too much in the long run like an earlier comment pointed out.

IPO is good news if you own options and have a bonus coming your way.

You could try talking to the recruiter - I don't see the harm in asking. I would if I were you(because I live in the Midwest and 20k is a lot of money and probably gonna take me two years to get that raise at my current job)
