Should I stay or should I go?

10 years in the industry, 5 years in Amazon (SDE II), two teams, there's nothing left from the sign up bonus and there's nothing much moving forward.

I'm making about 185k TC, I enjoy my current team and appreciate my manager and skip, but I don't see promotion on the next couple of years, and with the promo process in our group I'm skeptical about my career progression in general - my managers seem supportive, but I'm more concerned about the org.

The question is - should I stay and hope for the best, or should I try to get the promotion by switching to a different top tier company?

On the one hand, I have good time at the office, and good managers is something that I consider to be of high value (my previous manager was hostile, my current one is a massive improvement).
On the other hand, I'm tired of not advancing. All of my friends have been moving upwards, and I feel like I'm trailing behind.

I've excelled on everything I've done in my life, except for advancing my career. I have some legitimate outstanding accomplishments, so it's not like I'm a weak / bar-lowering individual. I know that I'm biased by definition, but this information has been conveyed by 3rd parties as well.

So should I roll the dice, or just focus on appreciating what I have and hope for the best?

(I should mention - if I go down the interview path, I'm doing it full steam: 3-6 month of preparations. So it's a serious time investment, hence the dilemma)

What I am reading is that there is no motivation to stay. Get out of your comfort zone and try other places. Career progression at amazon is a myth.

That's so messed up... 🤦‍♂️(I think you're right, I just think it's stupid that it's easier to pass interview on higher lvl, rather than getting promoted within the org)

Leave. Level up, interview for SDE3 level roles only.

Get out. There is no reason to stay at Amazon for more than 4 years unless you have a promotion on the immediate horizon. Go get a promotion and more TC elsewhere.
