Which one will give me better growth and learning if I want to eventually go back to big tech?
Probs 2S, it’s much more of an engineering leaning culture. What’re the offers for SWE?
They pay less but are more chill.
Damn that hits in the feels
The difference in pay could round up to a new grad salary at google
Citadel
Citadel almost certainly higher pay and faster growth, but at the expense of WLB
Can you elaborate on why?
Uh I mean if you have offers from both you will easily see the discrepancy in pay lmao. 2s grew way too fast and imo personal growth is pretty slow compared to citadel
I don't understand emphasizing WLB at the start of your career... The more stuff you get done, the more experience you get. It's not like your whole life will be consumed at Citadel, there's people who work pretty normal hours there too.
If you don't have good WLB in your youth, it will be hard to find a life partner and all the good ones will be taken when you're older
Some people would rather take a slight pay cut, still make an absurd amount of money for right out of college, and have good WLB *why not both?*
New grad here and recently chose 2S over Citadel
You may consider the non compete period. It maybe troublesome when you want to keep in finance but not the same companies. Garden leave may be okay for some but not everyone
I believe non competes aren't enforceable in Illinois since. 2018
Not only about money. Staying at home (or traveling) may not fit some’s style. For example, some people start to feel their technical capabilities not in the edge after few weeks because not exposing to the industry constantly.
You won't be able to negotiate your new grad salary close to citadel, so if TC is your main concern, go citadel. If wlb is your main concern, got 2S, but know that securities has okay wlb. Both will have same exit opps for big tech
New grad 2S TC =~ Citadel TC with like half signing bonus (both post negotiating)
Hmm post negotiation recurring for me was 50k less lol (200 vs 250)
definitely. much chiller and better. I’d get them to negotiate your salary up first
