I'm starting to interview with Slack and the recruiter asked me to provide salary expectations. He said he needed to have these numbers to move me forward. what is a reasonable range for a Sr SWE in San Francisco? YOE: 8 + Masters Degree TC: 150K
Check levels.fyi I didn't find Slack specific TCs but you can look at some other companies and get an idea of TC at your level. I would say anywhere between 300K - 400K
I could, but I don't want to start the conversation by stating state laws
I meant the part where they are obliged to mention the salary range in California. But you're right, I will simply ask for the range.
Following up on the other posts about California law, it's very fair to say "I haven't done enough research yet to know what a reasonable pay for this role is, especially with how expensive SF is. So I am hoping we can talk about expected salary numbers much later in the process." Also, per law, you don't have to reveal what your current pay is.
That is exactly the answer I gave, but was told they cannot move in the process unless I provide my expectations for comp.
That's insane
Ask for 33 percent more than your current TC. Don’t settle for less than 20 percent more. You have a job. You aren’t desperate to change. Whereas competent SDEs are in short supply.
I work in a relatively cheap city in east cost. So 33% is hard to apply here.
50% then
The recruiter isn’t asking for past salary. He’s asking the candidate for your salary expectations. What do you expect for this role at this company? You should do your research and know how much salary and RSUs you expect.
Just say it's negotiable and I don't have a number in mind.
Did you get an offer?
Did you get in ?
How did it go ?
