Spotify vs. Facebook offers : L4 Engineer

Hi everyone, I just got two offers (completely different in terms of salary and life style and am struggling to decide which one to choose. I'm L4 Engineer. Here are the two offers: - Spotify (base): $850K (SEK) + stocks/options / location: Stockholm - Facebook (base) : $ 160K (USD) + stocks/options/ location: Menlo Park I tried to calculate the Spotify option and is around $90 USD ...seems extremely low (before taxes). But I have no idea what is the cost of living in Sweden. Any help would be fully appreciate!

I know ...but should I count the standard of living as a factor? You are absolutely right on the 💲

How is this even a question?

Not sure. I was thinking that living in Sweden would be nice. It's a different lifestyle. Rentals are extremely cheap (1 bd apartment in downtown costs around $1,200 a month).

Spotify will leave you more fulfilled. Swedish men are tall hung and hot.

Bay area is better for future career prospects than Stockholm. You'll probably save more in absolute value in the bay area as well.

True. If I live in Menlo Park, I will prob. need a car and etc. Costs will be high. I'm assuming that STO I can use public transportation anywhere. Is this a typical salary for Sweden though? I'm wondering if I can maintain my lifestyle there ...worried about this.

You should try living a week or two in Stockholm if you’re seriously considering, especially this time of year. I come from a Scandinavian country and the lifestyle is very very different. Pros: Quality of life is very high and work life balance is great. People are amazingly good looking and open minded. Cons: Social circles are very tight knit and there’s very little diversity. Weather is depressing 6 months out of the year. As an expat, you don’t reap the benefits from high taxes you pay.

I’d probably choose Spotify just for the experience of living in Stockholm.

I work in NY and have heard living in Stockholm can be depressing for non swedes. Many months of darkness and cold. Swedish people are nice but not necessarily friendly and inviting. It's also ridiculous to me how expensive everything is even with the benefits they give families. I've been to Stockholm a few times now for work and couldn't see myself bringing my family there. I know one person who has but majority actually want to leave/have left Sweden to come work in NYC office. If it's possible, I think you'd be better off coming to NY location. With our generous vacation policy and work life balance you can easily travel and do more fulfilling work/hobby of your choice.

Thank you for your feedback. I will discuss it with my wife. NYC also sounds amazing.

Swedish people are anything but nice. Colleagues, sure, will be nice when they have to work with you, and then will pretend they didn’t see you when you meet on the street. Although if you’re married it will probably be easier. I’d never advice any man moving here alone. Especially if you not way above average looking, you will miserable. Swedes value nothing except the appearance, so you’ll be at a huge disadvantage.

I'd choose spotify no doubt. We have many ex fb employees.
