I'm currently at around 154k (base+bonus). 10 yrs exp. How much could I reasonably ask for in next role? Not complaining about my current salary btw just want an idea of how much I could potentially make next or if I'm at a real good place already.
Thank you for the reply, makes sense. And yes, I'm new to both blind and negotiating TC. :)
What type of Security Engineering? FANG offer could net you double, probably.
FANG in Seattle/Bellevue or bay area? Also, security operations, not appsec
Comp would be same in both locations (for FB at least). Security operations, like incident response/analysis? Yeah IC5 in that role is probably 300k TC. There is an eng bar you need to pass (not same as SWE , however).

Is it just me but given the history with British in India
You seem new to blind or negotiating TC. 1) The TC you deserve has NOTHING to do with your current TC or your YOE. You may be working for 10 years and know jack. Find rough estimates for similar positions and experience in blind or levels.fyi etc 2) Prep! Prep prep prep. That means whiteboard questions. Leetcode, system design primer, grokking the system design interview, brush up on dynamic programming and read cracking the coding interview. 3) Interview! Start interviewing after the prep. Do mock interviews and start with smaller companies to get your feet wet then try for the companies you want. 4) Negotiate! Never ever ever ever give your current salary to a company. They will just take your current TC + 10%. Never give the first number. In fact, read this blog post, it’s two parts: https://haseebq.com/my-ten-rules-for-negotiating-a-job-offer/ 5) Only you can determine what you could reasonably ask for. The beautiful thing about software engineers and architects is that we aren’t like dentists or construction workers, our TC wildly varies depending on skill. For 10YOE I’m WA you could get $95k - $500k. It depends on your skill. By doing the prep, and wowing them in a good interview, you can slide into a much higher TC 6) Good luck
Let me fix that for you. 1) You might be remarkably talented but don't spend your evenings grinding leetcode.
