Taking Less $$

I'm pretty unhappy in my current role at Salesforce, but compensated well. Probably too well for what I'm worth, if I'm being honest.

Recently got an offer to join Dropbox in a similar role but comp is about 25% less and have been told I cannot move it any further. Liked the people I met more than my team at Salesforce and I generally think Dropbox is more interesting. But maybe I'm wrong?

Really looking for some guidance on how to weigh this decision of taking less comp and evaluating Dropbox vs Salesforce as companies/career opportunities.

Didn’t Dropbox just file for IPO? Maybe you can get stock to compensate for the salary?

What matters to you? Money will come and go, but your time here on earth is limited. You can be a mercenary, but for how long?

Yeah Salesforce is known for golden handcuffs. Dropbox is known for strong design and Engg. If you’re junior or mid probably makes sense. But the company is worth 6B not 10B (when you value your equity). And I wouldn’t expect it to be a strong stock. Do it for the team and learning.

Bad move as you will find all kinds of dysfunction at Dropbox and make 25 percent less. You will hate yourself in a year. Find something motivating at SFDC, new goals, networking. Grass is never greener on the other side

100% not true. I just left 3M where I felt sick to my stomach at the daily stubborn ignorance to an identical role in a different industry. The difference in competence and general working conditions is night and day.
