Did you take a career break after having a baby? How long of a break did you take? How difficult was it to get back to work? Was it difficult to get interview calls? Were you happy with the decision to take a break? Thank you! TC 200K
I wish I had taken a break
Single male here who took a career break without having a baby. Left my old company. Traveled around the world for a year. Got a job at Apple after that. Planning to take such breaks after every 5 years. Was asked in the interview about it. the Hiring manager said that he wanted to do the same. And I had the offer the next day.
Yes. Do it. You will never get the time back. Kids grow up so quickly.
How easy is it to come back after the break
Companies like Dell are specifically hiring parents who are re-entering the workforce after a life event (children, sickness in the family etc.). So while it’s hard, it’s not impossible. If finances allow, go for it! Before you do, try making a list of life goals with your spouse a I promise “I wish I had worked more” won’t be one of them:)
I was working for a startup in the city, switched to a small company close to home during pregnancy. Went on 5 months leave and started working full time after that with flexible work hours. Working 8-4 and spending eve and weekends completely focused on the baby. Loved every part of it. Moved to product role after baby turned 1. I had my mom around to help me the first year though. So it all depends on your situation and what you want to do. Good luck :)
If you love parenting enjoy it longer, if you need money keep it short. There are trade offs no matter what you do.
