Taking a new job when pregnant

Considering in taking this job however I am currently going through IVF and pretty sure if everything goes well I will be pregnant when I join this new job in SF. - Do I need to disclose to my new manager? - Should I be worried for discrimination after joining? It’s a job I am passionate for however due to my health conditions this is my only chance to be pregnant. Thank you for your advice here!

Maybe wait until you’ve been at the job for a year or so

Well it’s not a choice I can make!

I’d say it’s going to be a risk then, but you do you.

It depends on the company. Larger ones will have a maternity leave policy that works for you, but smaller (or shittier) ones will go by the FMLA rules, which only protect you if you've been there a year. Personally, I'd avoid disclosing to the hiring manager because people suck. It's a good question for an HR/benefits person though.

How far into it are you? Honestly I wouldn’t even mention it to them! It’s not fair to you to even be concerned about that while you are battling infertility! Treat the pregnancy like any other one. If you get pregnant then great, tell them at the end of your first trimester like anybody else would but do NOT let this stop you from taking your dream job! Family planning shouldn’t factor into a companies decision to employ you.

Best of luck btw! My wife is going in tomorrow for her transfer for baby number 2! IVF is a LOOONG journey and the last thing you should be worrying about is your employer holding it against you.

Go for it. From the job perspective it's completely fine. From your health perspective, think about the commute and the stress of a new job. As you say you are passionate about this, I think you will be fine sista!

No and no. They shouldn't discriminate if you get pregnant between now and whenever.

Don’t say anything. Legally, you’re not required to disclose this information. Also, since it’s just the beginning you have like 9 months to put into the job. Most companies will say they require a year but if it happens before a year they never actually withhold your benefits. I know from experience. Also 8 weeks pregnant now.
